As one of Ireland’s leading builders’ merchants, operating over 50 stores nationwide and offering building materials, expert advice, and DIY solutions across all sectors, Chadwicks Group is uniquely positioned within the country’s construction sector. Recognising this, Chadwicks set a powerful goal: to become a leader in ESG and renewable energy adoption within the industry.
This undertaking presented a critical challenge: how do you effectively lead an entire sector in sustainability and reduce reliance on grid energy across a large, multi-site national operation?
The search for a guaranteed partner
Chadwicks needed a partner that could deliver on reliability and scale. After a competitive review, they selected Alternative Energy Ireland (AEI) as their solar PV partner. This choice was deliberate, as they opted for AEI’s solution: Ireland’s only guaranteed-output and single-branded tier 1 solar system.
The strategic rollout began in 2022 with the installation of 10kWp systems across seven Chadwicks branches.
Scaling the success story
The initial success quickly led to significant expansion. Following the positive results, AEI was awarded the large 231.8kWp system at Heiton Steel, Chadwicks’ steel division HQ. This commitment has continued, with solar installations now covering an additional 15 Chadwicks locations.
In total, AEI has delivered over 800kWp of installed solar capacity for Chadwicks Group across more than 20 sites and properties. The partnership is ongoing, with further projects already planned.
The lasting impact: Over €300,000 saved
The impact of this long-term partnership is clear, providing both environmental benefits and operational returns. The Group is well on its way to meeting its long-term sustainability targets, having already achieved substantial results:
- Industry Leadership: Chadwicks Group has secured an industry-leading position in early renewable adoption.
- Financial Savings: They have achieved over €300,000 in energy savings to date.
- Carbon Avoided: The Group has reduced CO2 emissions by over 232 tonnes.
Chadwicks Group has proven that leading a sector in sustainability can also deliver powerful, positive financial returns for the business.
