Alternative Energy Ireland Supports Major Solar Projects For Irish Businesses

Mar 13, 2026 | Commercial, Solar For Business

Ireland’s transition to renewable energy continues to gather pace, with two new commercial solar projects demonstrating how large organisations can significantly reduce both their energy costs and carbon emissions.

Delivered by Alternative Energy Ireland (AEI), the projects form part of a wider programme to deploy 50 megawatts (MW) of solar power across 100 Irish businesses over the next five years, enough renewable energy to power approximately 12,000 homes.

The initiative is backed by energy company Certa, which has committed €50 million to accelerating solar adoption across Irish industry.

Making Solar Accessible for Businesses

A key element of the programme is Solar as a Service, a model that allows companies to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems without the need for upfront capital investment.

Through this approach:

  • Alternative Energy Ireland designs, installs and maintains each solar system
  • Financing is structured to remove the barrier of a large initial investment

This enables businesses to adopt renewable energy with minimal operational disruption while achieving long-term savings and measurable emissions reductions.

Large-Scale Solar Installation at Jabil

One of the first companies to implement the model is Jabil, located in Bray, Co. Wicklow. The company specialises in the design and manufacturing of advanced healthcare products for pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic companies.

The project involves the installation of 3,000 rooftop solar PV panels across the facility.

Once operational, the 1.5 MW solar system is expected to:

  • Generate 1.3 million kWh of renewable electricity each year
  • Provide clean energy for approximately 25 years
  • Reduce carbon emissions by around 360 tonnes annually

Solar Rollout Across Lindab Sites

A second project has been delivered for Lindab, a supplier of energy-efficient ventilation systems and building solutions.

Across three sites in Dublin, the company is installing 400 rooftop solar panels as part of a 178 kW solar system.

The installation will:

  • Generate approximately 165,000 kWh of renewable electricity per year
  • Reduce carbon emissions by around 44 tonnes annually

Supporting Ireland’s Energy Transition

Projects like these highlight the growing role solar energy can play in helping Irish businesses manage rising energy costs while working towards sustainability targets.

With the expertise of Alternative Energy Ireland in solar design, installation and maintenance, organisations can transition to renewable energy through flexible models that remove traditional financial barriers.

As more companies look to reduce their environmental impact, solutions like Solar as a Service are helping to make large-scale solar adoption both practical and financially accessible for Irish industry.
